Water to nearly 300 Mooresville homes was cut off last month because the residents failed to pay their water bills.
Yet a small, local textile company was allowed to run up a $216,613 utility bill over many months while its water stayed on.
That company – Meritage LLC off Mazeppa Road – is now out of business. And the town is suing the company in an attempt to collect the debt.
