Marcella Thompson is an accountant but grew lonely working in a back room with nothing but a calculator and numbers to keep her company.
That changed 11 years ago when she joined Consumer Credit Counseling Services as a counselor. In her small office in Texas City, Thompson tries to right the finances of people who call looking for help.
Thompson talked with the Chronicle's L.M. Sixel about the psychology of spending, how men and women use credit cards differently, and the importance of learning how to manage money early.
