Saranac Lake officials considering dissolving village gov't
Saranac Lake officials plan to look at the issue of whether dissolving the village government would be a benefit to taxpayers.
At the village board meeting Monday, trustee John McEneany suggested conducting a study to investigate the ramifications of dissolving the village government would be.
“Several community members brought the idea for a study to me,” McEneany said in an interview Wednesday. “We would have to plan for it in the budget.”
The issue of eliminating the village government is one that has been looked at off and on since the 1980s but there have been no recent studies done. McEneany said that taking a look at this issue is especially relevant now because the New York Legislature is pushing for the consolidation of local governments.
