Sunnyvale, Calif.-based, Internet company Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) said it would launch a superior version of its suite of software for cell phone users in the United States on Friday and unveil test versions in 13 other countries, reports Wall Street Journal.
The company said it has also plans to reveal deals with mobile operators in six Asian countries to use its oneSearch Web-based search service as the default engine on their mobile portals. The Asian mobile operators that signed search deals with Yahoo include Globe Telecom Inc. in the Philippines, Idea Cellular Ltd. in India, LG Telecom Co. Ltd. in South Korea, Maxis Communications Bhd. in Malaysia, PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) in Indonesia and Taiwan Mobile Co. Yahoo said its Go will work on more than 200 phone models by the end of July and 400 models by year end globally, the company said, though availability to consumers also will be subject to the agreement of their wireless carriers.
