PPGH looks to slow bleeding bad debt causing financially
In an effort to be responsible to taxpayers, Palo Pinto General Hospital Board of Trustees shared support for administrators who plan to help resolve bad debt by placing a trial social worker/financial collector in the Emergency Room.
Patients who receive services and do not pay are the reason, “70 percent of [PPGH’s] bad debt is from the ER,” reported Chief Financial Officer Dee Waldow at Tuesday’s board meeting.
According to administrators, one individual has used the hospital’s ER over 396 times since 1993 and has never paid for services. The sum of visits totals $112,893.77, or an average of 30 visits and $8,684 per year.
