The city's debt could be about to take a big leap.
With Grande Prairie continuing to grow at record paces, that growth is causing increasing demand for services and facilities.
Whether it is new swimming pools and gymnasiums or increased affordable housing units, people are wanting more from the city.
But city treasurer Ken Anderson those demands come with a price tag.
"Council has been very deliberate in trying to address some of the infrastructure needs and deficiencies we've had over the last few years, however, our debt is moving up over $100 million at the end of 2010 and we will have challenges in creating some of these larger projects. For example, the field house at $40 million."
