Clearing Your Holiday Debt


We've shopped...and we've dropped... a lot of money in the past few months. But now that the New Year is upon us, some of those expenses could be catching up with you. If you find yourself behind on your bills, experts says you'll want to re-examine your budget. 

Rick Huntimer with Consumer Credit Counseling Services says "It's looking at income, looking at typical monthly expenses. Just sitting down and going through every month. What am I averaging spending every month?" 

The average American household has $5,000 in credit card debt. If your family is one of them, you might need to look closer at your credit card statements. 

Huntimer says, "Take a look at what it's costing you, as far as what you're paying in interest every month. Make sure you pay your bills on time, because if you miss a payment, you're going to pay $35 to $39 in a late fee."
