Iowa should consider going into debt, Gov. Chet Culver said today.
“If we want to modernize our infrastructure -- our sewer treatment facilities, our water treatment facilities – I don’t know how bonding can stay off the table,” Culver said this morning during a taping of Iowa Public Television’s "Iowa Press."
According to data from the U.S. Bureau of the Census, Iowa ranked 47th in per-capita levels of state and local government public debt in 2005.
