When Gov. Jon Corzine re cently signed the FY 2009 Appropriations Act into law, many believed that he did a good job given very difficult circumstances. But there is no good news for next year -- and it is get ting worse.
In his budget message, the governor pointed to a looming $1.7 billion problem for next year, an unprecedented public disclosure. The governor did not shovel the problem under the political rug. Instead, he gave fair warning that problems are far from over and other difficult choices are near. But he made that warning before anyone knew of the devastating financial transactions of the past week.
