Credit union extends its tax prep services


Northeast Credit Union has extended the date for its free federal tax preparation and filing services for those who earned less than $50,000 per family in 2007. Appointments are now available through Saturday, April 12, at its 100 Borthwick Ave., Portsmouth location. This service is provided in partnership with the Rockingham County Asset Building Coalition. The focus of the free tax preparation and filing services is to help income eligible taxpayers secure Earned Income Tax Credits. Eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • An individual (with 1 child) earning less than $33,241 or married (1 child) filing jointly earning less than $35,241 may receive the EITC maximum credit of $2,853.
  • An individual (with 2 or more children) earning less than $37,783 or married (with 2 or more children) filing jointly earning less than $39,783 may receive the EITC maximum credit of $4,716.
  • An individual (with no children) earning less than $12,590 or married (with no children) filing jointly earning less than $14,590 may receive the EITC maximum credit of $428.
