When good credit marries into bad
|

Each person has his own separate credit report, so you don't have to worry about your spouse's bad credit affecting your record the minute you get married. As long as you apply for a loan on your own, the lender can't check your spouse's report, too.

Credit score is important to know

'Most consumers simply don't understand them,' said Stephen Brobeck, executive director of the Consumer Federation of America. A survey just released by the federation and Providian Financial shows 47 percent of 1,027 Americans surveyed in July had never obtained their credit scores.

All too often, I see young people fresh out of college come into our office seeking help in paying back credit cards and student loans on an entry-level paycheck. Often times, these are the kids who have to move back in with their parents because they simply can’t afford to live on their own.
